A tragic incident occurred last week outside a synagogue in Manchester, where a violent attack resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Authorities report that the suspect, Jihad Al-Shamie, a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent, claimed allegiance to the Islamic State during a call to emergency dispatchers.<\/p>\n
Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts confirmed that Al-Shamie had not been previously flagged under the UK\u2019s Prevent program, which aims to intervene with individuals at risk of radicalization. He noted that before this event, Al-Shamie had also been on bail for a separate offense.<\/p>\n
On October 2, Al-Shamie drove a car into pedestrians outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue and then attacked them with a knife. He was ultimately shot by police, who characterized an apparent explosive device he was carrying as a “hoax.”<\/p>\n
The two victims, identified as Adrian Daulby, aged 53, and Melvin Cravitz, aged 66, tragically lost their lives during the attack, which took place on Yom Kippur, a major day in the Jewish calendar. Reports suggest that one of the victims might have been unintentionally shot by officers responding to the incident.<\/p>\n
In response to the attack, three men and three women have been arrested on suspicion of planning terrorist acts. Their connections to Al-Shamie are still being investigated, and authorities continue to assess the motivations behind the attack.<\/p>\n
