In a recent internal email, he emphasized the company&#8217;s commitment to a strong work ethic. Wu remarked, &#8220;We don\u2019t believe in work-life balance\u2014building the future of software engineering requires a deep dedication that combines both work and life.\u201d He acknowledged that many who joined Windsurf may not be prepared for the demands at Cognition, which often includes six-day workweeks and over 80-hour work weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Wu framed the buyout as a fair option for employees who may not be comfortable with the level of commitment expected at Cognition. The decision is aimed at allowing a respectful exit for those who do not wish to continue after the acquisition. The offer, which is available until August 10, follows recent layoffs affecting about 30 Windsurf staff.<\/p>\n<p>This move reflects Cognition&#8217;s plan to create a more streamlined team focused on its evolving goals. The acquisition of Windsurf aligns with significant changes in the company, including a failed $3 billion deal with OpenAI, which fell through due to concerns regarding intellectual property rights.
