The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, carrying India’s own Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla and three other astronauts on the Axiom-4 mission, has successfully undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) this morning. The undocking occurred at approximately 7:05 AM EDT (4:35 PM IST) today, July 14. The crew is set to make a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean near Southern California tomorrow at around 5:30 AM EDT (3 PM IST) on July 15. Union Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, mentioned that there is a one-hour margin for these timings.<\/p>\n
In a heartfelt farewell address, Shukla reflected on India\u2019s progress in space exploration. He said, \u201c41 years ago, an Indian traveled to space and shared a view of our homeland from above. Today, India appears ambitious, fearless, and proud from space.\u201d He spoke in both English and Hindi and added, \u201cOur journey into space exploration is just beginning, even if it requires perseverance.\u201d<\/p>\n
During his stay at the ISS, one of Shukla\u2019s vital experiments focused on space microalgae. He aimed to explore their potential for producing food, oxygen, and biofuels, which could be crucial for long-duration space missions. By studying the impact of microgravity on different strains of cyanobacteria, Shukla sought to understand how these organisms behave in space and their possible benefits for future human life beyond Earth.<\/p>\n
