Island Secures $250 Million in Funding to Enhance Enterprise Browser Security

Island, a company specializing in enterprise browsers, has successfully raised $250 million in its Series E funding round, bringing its total valuation closer to $5 billion. This funding round was led by Coatue with contributions from existing investors, marking a significant milestone in the company’s financial journey. To date, Island has accumulated $730 million in funding, following a previous $175 million round in 2024, which valued the company at $3 billion.

The newly acquired funds will be used to improve product development, expand the team, and boost market adoption. Island aims to strengthen its position in the enterprise browser security sector by broadening its range of solutions and increasing its market reach across various industries.

Meet the Founders of Island

Island was co-founded in 2020 by Mike Fey, former CEO of Symantec, and Dan Amiga, a well-known entrepreneur from Israel. Fey’s extensive background in cybersecurity and Amiga’s technical knowledge play a crucial role in driving the company’s development. The organization has grown to include about 500 employees, with over 200 engineers focused on product innovation.

With its headquarters in Dallas, Texas, and a key development hub in Tel Aviv, the team is strategically positioned. Both founders have a vested interest in Cyberstarts, an early backer of Wiz, and stand to gain from Google’s recent purchase of Wiz, which highlights their successful history in the cybersecurity arena.

The Island Enterprise Browser: A New Era in Security and Productivity

The Island Enterprise Browser is designed to provide a secure and integrated workspace for businesses, merging essential IT, security, and productivity features directly into the browsing experience. This innovative platform allows IT and security teams to maintain full visibility and control while ensuring a smooth experience for end users.

Island has introduced technology that facilitates quick remote connections to corporate computers and internal communication applications. The goal is to keep employees using their browsers and boost corporate usage, positioning the Enterprise Browser as the "desktop of the future." This browser is touted as the world’s first self-protecting browser, which comes with advanced security features including encryption, protection against network attacks, and measures to prevent keylogging and screen capture.

Supporting Hybrid Workforces with a Seamless Experience

This browser offers a user-friendly experience for hybrid workers at a much lower cost compared to traditional Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions. Its built-in features like web filtering and exploit prevention ensure that hybrid employees remain productive and secure. Organizations can also automate tasks and create tailored workflows to improve their efficiency.

Island is poised to take the lead in the evolving enterprise browser security market, competing with other notable companies like Talon Security and Guardio. While the initial focus was on providing secure browsing solutions for large businesses, Island is now encouraging a broader range of employees to transition to its browser.

Looking to the Future

Island’s vision is to reshape how businesses secure and manage applications by transforming the browser into the “desktop of the future.” As more companies shift to cloud-based applications and hybrid workplaces, the need for secure, efficient browser solutions is set to grow.

“The Enterprise Browser moves beyond conventional web browsers to an enterprise-ready solution that enhances productivity for users and simplifies operations for IT and security teams,” said Mike Fey, CEO and Co-founder of Island. “Organizations across various sectors are making Island a key part of their IT modernization strategies. This new funding will help us scale our products and recruit talent to meet the evolving IT demands.”

Dan Amiga, CTO and Co-founder of Island, added, “Collaboration with our customers has been integral to creating the Enterprise Browser from the start. Building a new category necessitates strong technical partnerships and trust between CIOs, CISOs, and development teams. Their feedback has been critical in protecting sensitive data and increasing IT efficiency.”

David Schneider, a General Partner at Coatue, expressed excitement about continuing their partnership with Island, stating, “Island’s exceptional leadership team has consistently delivered a product that adds significant value to enterprise users. With the rise of AI, Island is setting a new industry standard, helping organizations stay competitive and secure. We are eager to support their next steps.”
