Controversy Sparks as Sanjay Raut Claims Eknath Shinde Tried Joining Congress
MUMBAI: A new controversy arose when Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut claimed during an interview on Saturday that Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had made attempts to join the Congress party in the past. Raut responded to questions about Shinde’s political maneuvers, saying, "Indeed, he was moving in that direction. Anyone can confirm this, including Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan." He noted that Congress leader Ahmed Patel, who could have verified these meetings, has passed away.
However, representatives from Shinde’s party quickly dismissed Raut’s accusations. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske responded sharply, suggesting that Raut’s claims might be influenced by substances he consumed during the Holi festival. He questioned why Shinde would be entrusted with significant responsibilities, such as being the urban development minister and leading electoral campaigns, if there was any doubt about his loyalty.
This unfolding drama highlights the ongoing tensions in Maharashtra’s political landscape as various parties navigate alliances and accusations.
