Virat Kohli Reflects on Future Tours After Challenging Australia Series
On March 15, senior cricketer Virat Kohli shared his thoughts about potentially not participating in another tour of Australia. Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, Kohli expressed that he has come to terms with the events from the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Kohli faced a tough challenge during the 2024/25 series, where India suffered a 3-1 defeat against Australia, led by captain Pat Cummins. Despite starting strong with a century in the first Test, Kohli struggled in the following matches, ultimately ending the series with just 190 runs at an average of 23.75.
Kohli wasn’t the only one who found the series difficult, as fellow batsman Rohit Sharma also struggled, managing only 31 runs in three matches. The disappointing performances from both players were highlighted as significant reasons for India’s struggles in Test cricket.
During the summit, Kohli candidly stated, "I might not have another Australia tour in me, so I am at peace with whatever happened in the past."
Looking ahead, India is set to travel to Australia in October and November 2025 for a white-ball series, which will include three ODIs and five T20Is. This tour serves as preparation for the T20 World Cup in 2026 and the ODI World Cup in 2027. Kohli’s comments have sparked discussions about his future, particularly regarding the possibility of stepping away from the ODI format after the Champions Trophy in Dubai.
Kohli previously retired from T20I cricket following the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados, where he was named player of the match in the final against South Africa.
As cricket fans wait to see what Kohli’s next move will be, his focus remains on finding peace with his past performances and looking toward the future.
