The head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir, made his way to Mussorie on Wednesday, March 12, to attend the wedding of Rishabh Pant’s sister, Sakshi. The event is expected to see a star-studded attendance from the cricket world, with Indian captain Rohit Sharma and renowned batter Virat Kohli likely to join the celebrations.
Gambhir, who recently led India to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy, was seen arriving at Dehradun airport before heading to Mussorie by car. Even though Pant was part of the winning squad, he didn’t play during the tournament, as KL Rahul stepped in as the wicketkeeper.
Before his journey to Dehradun, Gambhir took a moment to speak with the media, expressing his joy over the team’s success in the Champions Trophy. “I am very happy, the whole nation is happy,” he said in an interview with ANI.
This victory marked Gambhir’s first major achievement as head coach since he took the role in July 2024. Following India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup under Rahul Dravid’s leadership, expectations were high for further success. However, his term began with some challenges, as the team faced an ODI series loss to Sri Lanka for the first time since 1997. Additionally, India experienced a significant setback with a 0-3 home Test series defeat against New Zealand in November.
The team’s struggles continued when they failed to secure a series win in Australia and did not make it to the World Test Championship finals, causing concern among fans and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Amidst rising speculation about his job security, Gambhir’s coaching faced intense scrutiny.
Things turned around for the team in February when they executed a stunning 3-0 whitewash against England in the ODI series. This comeback culminated in their second consecutive ICC Champions Trophy win in 2025, showcasing the resilience of the Indian cricket team under his leadership.
