Pakistan Cricket Board Tightens Security Following Rawalpindi Pitch Incident During Champions Trophy

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is taking steps to enhance security across all venues for the Champions Trophy 2025. This decision comes after a fan managed to invade the pitch during a match in Rawalpindi. The incident occurred during the sixth match of the tournament between New Zealand and Bangladesh, where a fan ran onto the field to embrace New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra.

The PCB emphasized that the safety of players and match officials is their utmost priority. After the fan’s security breach, the board announced they would work with local security agencies to bolster security measures at all tournament venues. They confirmed that additional security personnel will be present around the playing field and that access control will be strengthened.

In a statement, the PCB noted, “We are taking this matter very seriously. Our responsibility is to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the event. We are collaborating with security forces to improve our security protocols.”

The fan who entered the field was apprehended, taken to court, and has now been banned from all cricket venues in Pakistan. The PCB stated, “This individual was arrested and has received a permanent ban from entering any cricket grounds in the country. We are committed to reviewing our security strategies to prevent similar incidents in the future.”

In other tournament news, the semi-final slots are starting to fill up. New Zealand secured their place with a solid five-wicket victory over Bangladesh, highlighted by Ravindra’s outstanding century. They now join India in the semi-finals after both teams have won their matches in Group A.

Group B remains competitive, especially after a recent rainout between Australia and South Africa that has left all teams in a tough position. Next up in Group B is a crucial match between England and Afghanistan on February 26 in Lahore, which will act as a virtual knockout for both teams.
