Delhi Capitals Claims Victory Over UP Warriorz in Thrilling Encounter

The Delhi Capitals secured a gripping win against the UP Warriorz by seven wickets during the WPL 2025 match held on Wednesday, February 19, at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. With this triumph, the Capitals climbed to second place on the points table, now boasting four points, while the Warriorz found themselves at the bottom after suffering consecutive losses.

Match Highlights

The Warriorz began strongly, racking up 66 runs during the powerplay, thanks to the explosive batting of Kiran Navgire. She scored a quick fifty off just 24 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes in her total of 51 runs. Partnering with her, Dinesh Vrinda scored 16 off 15 balls, but skipper Deepti Sharma and Tahlia McGrath struggled to make an impact, failing to reach double digits.

Shweta Sehrawat played a stabilizing role with a solid 37 runs before Marizanne Kapp dismissed her. However, it was Chinelle Henry’s quickfire performance that helped the Warriorz set a challenging target of 166 runs for seven wickets. Henry, who filled in for Alyssa Healy, contributed a brisk 33 runs off just 15 balls.

For the Capitals, Annabel Sutherland was the standout performer, taking two crucial wickets, including those of Navgire and Vrinda, with figures of 2 for 26 in her four overs. Kapp, Jess Jonassen, and Minnu Mani also claimed one wicket each.

Capitals’ Pursuit

In the chase, Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning laid a solid foundation with a partnership of 65 runs in just 6.5 overs. Shafali bounced back from an earlier score of zero in the previous match against RCB to make 26 runs off 16 balls. Lanning, demonstrating her skill, scored a commendable 69 off 49 balls, including 12 boundaries.

Though Jemimah Rodrigues did not score, Lanning and Sutherland formed a crucial partnership adding 49 runs. After her successful bowling performance, the 23-year-old Sutherland kept up her good form with the bat, finishing not out at 41 runs off 35 balls, hit with four fours.

Marizanne Kapp also contributed with a quick 29 runs off 17 deliveries. With the Capitals needing just 11 runs from the last over, Sutherland clinched the victory by hitting McGrath for two consecutive fours, leading Delhi to a thrilling finish.
