Vinicius Jr shone brightly in Real Madrid’s impressive 5-1 win against RB Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League, earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for his two goals. These goals marked important milestones as they were his 100th and 101st for the club. Although he delivered a standout performance, Vinicius notably expressed modesty, stating he wouldn’t have chosen himself as the MVP. Instead, he focused on his desire to keep improving and to contribute more to his “dream club.”
After facing disappointment by missing out on the 2024 Ballon d’Or, won by Manchester City’s Rodri, Vinicius has remained determined to surpass his previous season’s performances. His brilliance against Salzburg showcased this drive as he scored twice, helping his team secure a delightful victory that also included two goals from Rodrygo and one from Kylian Mbappe.
“I was somewhat surprised to receive the trophy; I thought it would go to either Rodrygo or Jude (Bellingham) since my first half wasn’t so great. However, thanks to my teammates, I managed to uplift my game in the second half, scored two goals, and hit 100 goals for Real Madrid, the biggest club in the world, which has always been my dream,” Vinicius shared during an interview.
“My objective now is to stay calm while working on my skills, continually evolve, and support the greatest club in the world. I have always dreamed of playing alongside world-class players and achieving more titles wearing this jersey,” he added.
Vinicius’s accomplishment of surpassing 100 goals for Real Madrid has put him in the spotlight, and he assured fans of his commitment to the club. At just 23, amidst speculation about his future, he confirmed his wish to stay at Real Madrid, a team he believes is “the best club in the world.”
Despite this resounding victory, Real Madrid’s position in the Champions League remains a bit shaky. They currently sit 16th in the group with 12 points, just behind Bayer Leverkusen, who has 13 points. The tight competition for a top spot in the knockout stage adds pressure for the team.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti will be relying on key players like Vinicius, Rodrygo, Mbappe, and Jude Bellingham to keep performing well and close the gap in the standings. With only one point separating them from the top eight, the upcoming matches are set to be crucial as Real Madrid strives to secure their place in the next round.
Vinicius’s remarkable display against Salzburg reinforced his vital role in the team while highlighting his ambitions to develop further into one of the world’s leading forwards.
