Novak Djokovic Leaves Court Prematurely After Australian Open Match

Novak Djokovic’s sudden exit from the Rod Laver Arena after his Round of 16 match against Jiri Lehecka at the Australian Open 2025 has raised questions. The Serbian star left without participating in the usual post-match interview with Jim Courier, though he did take time to acknowledge the fans and sign autographs.

At first, some speculated that Djokovic departed because of a disruptive segment of the crowd who were heckling him. However, during the post-match press conference, Djokovic revealed the real reason for his abrupt departure. He mentioned that journalist Tony Jones made some offensive remarks about him and Serbian fans, which have since become a hot topic online.

Djokovic stated, “A journalist from Channel 9 in Australia mocked Serbian fans and made insulting comments towards me. Neither Tony nor Channel 9 has apologized.” He clarified that because Channel 9 is an official broadcaster, he chose not to give them an interview. “I have nothing against Jim Courier or the Australian public,” he added.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion described the situation as awkward, expressing regret that he didn’t find the right time or space to explain his feelings to the audience.

Next Match: Djokovic vs. Alcaraz

In the match against Lehecka, Djokovic won decisively in straight sets, securing his spot in the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park. The ten-time champion is set to face third seed Carlos Alcaraz in what is being touted as the biggest match of the tournament, scheduled for Tuesday.

Djokovic showcased his skills, dominating the first two sets and completing them in just 90 minutes. Although Lehecka put up more of a fight in the third set, forcing a tiebreak, Djokovic stepped up his game when it counted, finishing the match with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (4) after two hours and 39 minutes on the court.
