Global Economy Shows Steady Growth, But Relief for the Poor Remains Elusive
The World Bank has recently reported that the global economy is witnessing gradual growth despite ongoing challenges such as war, trade barriers, and high interest rates. However, this growth is not sufficient to provide relief to the world’s poorest populations.
According to the bank’s latest assessment, the world’s economy is projected to grow by 2.7% in both 2025 and 2026. While this represents a consistent performance similar to that of 2023 and 2024, it is still considered underwhelming. The growth rate is 0.4 percentage points lower than the average observed between 2010 and 2019.
This sluggish growth is attributed to the long-term effects of several significant disruptions in recent years, including the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing conflict resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Despite signs of recovery, many challenges remain, particularly for those most affected by these global issues.
