Vinod Kambli, the former Indian cricketer, has been hospitalized in Thane after doctors discovered brain clots during medical tests. He was admitted to Akriti Hospital on December 21 when his health issues worsened.

Dr. Vivek Trivedi, who is overseeing Kambli’s treatment, mentioned that the 52-year-old initially sought help for a urinary infection and cramps. After a comprehensive examination, the medical team found the brain clots. Dr. Trivedi assured that Kambli’s condition is being closely monitored, with further tests planned for Tuesday. In a show of support, hospital in-charge S. Singh has pledged to provide Kambli with free treatment for life.

Kambli, a key member of India’s 1996 World Cup team, has faced ongoing health challenges and financial difficulties since retiring from cricket. Recently, he attended a memorial for his childhood coach, Ramakanth Achrekar, where he was visibly weak but became emotional upon meeting his old friend and fellow cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar.

The cricket community has stepped up to support Kambli during this difficult time. He has openly discussed his struggles, including two heart attacks he suffered in 2013 and a severe urinary infection. Kambli also shared the financial assistance he received from Tendulkar, which helped clarify any misconceptions about their friendship, as well as his willingness to seek rehabilitation for past issues with alcohol.

Many former cricketers, including legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, have expressed their desire to help Kambli in his time of need.
