Pakistan Firm Secures Media Rights for Afghanistan vs India T20I Series

The Afghanistan Cricket Board has given the commercial and TV production rights for the upcoming T20I series between India and Afghanistan to TransGroup, a company based in Pakistan. TransGroup is associated with the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This partnership raises concerns, as the series might generate around $10 million in revenue for Pakistan, which could potentially be used to promote anti-India narratives.

On August 12, when Afghanistan revealed the match schedule, they also shared details about their partners. They announced that Vany will continue as the ACB’s clothing partner, while TransGroup will act as the global media rights partner. TPT360 will handle media production, and FanCode will be the official streaming partner for the series in India.

### A New T20I Series Between Afghanistan and India

This upcoming T20I series holds special significance for Afghanistan, as it marks the first official bilateral series between the two nations organized by the ACB, even though the matches will take place in India. Afghanistan has been forced to play its home matches at overseas venues, with India and the UAE being the main locations in recent years, primarily due to limited opportunities for international cricket in Afghanistan.

The series kicks off with the first T20I on September 13, followed by the second match on September 15 and the final game on September 17. This series is another important chapter in the growing cricketing ties between India and Afghanistan, as the two teams have faced off frequently in various formats.

The last time Afghanistan played in India was in June 2026, participating in a multi-format series that included a Test match and three ODIs. India won the ODI series convincingly, going 3-0, with matches held in Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Chennai.

In their most recent T20I series, which took place in January 2024, India triumphed once again, sweeping the series 3-0. The final match in Bengaluru was particularly thrilling, ending with both teams scoring 212 runs, and India clinching victory after a dramatic second Super Over.

As the series approaches, cricket fans from both nations are eagerly anticipating an exciting showcase of talent and competition on the field.
