Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to visit New Delhi for the upcoming BRICS Summit, as confirmed by Iranian sources on Friday. This important event will take place in September, where India will host the 18th BRICS Summit. This summit holds special significance as it marks India’s chairmanship of the group for 2026. The theme for this year’s gathering will focus on “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,” as India takes over the chair from Brazil.
During the previous BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, in October 2024, Pezeshkian met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they discussed various bilateral and regional matters.
Iran joined BRICS as a full member in 2024 alongside Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. In 2025, Indonesia also became part of the group, bringing the total number of full members to 11.
In June, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited India to participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, where he praised India’s role in promoting global peace. He emphasized that India could play a crucial part in easing tensions in West Asia and expressed Tehran’s desire for constructive dialogue, stating, “We will welcome any constructive role by India.”
Araghchi had discussions with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, affirming that friendly nations can depend on Iran for commercial safety. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to uphold security in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
In a message on social media, he remarked on the fruitful discussions with Jaishankar, underlining Iran’s dedication as a reliable partner for all friendly nations.
Additionally, the Iranian government shared that Araghchi spoke on the significance of overcoming Western dominance and ensuring international bodies remain free from political influence during his address at the BRICS meeting in India.
As tensions continue in West Asia, these diplomatic efforts underscore the importance of cooperation and dialogue in seeking resolutions amidst ongoing conflicts that have erupted since last February.
