Kingston’s HealthAlliance hospital has officially opened 20 new inpatient mental health care beds after closing its 60 mental health and detox beds back in 2020. The newly renovated space, which covers 20,000 square feet, aims to provide much-needed care for the community.

These updated facilities will welcome patients starting December 17 and feature a mix of semi-private and private rooms, as well as supportive areas, a calming quiet room with entertainment options, and a dedicated nursing station.

County Executive Jen Metzger, who advocated for the return of these services in 2020, expressed her enthusiasm for the reopening. She acknowledges that this is just the beginning of enhancing mental health support in the area. “We’ll be keeping an eye on whether this capacity meets community needs,” she stated, adding that she is hopeful and excited about this important development.
