North Dakota Men Claim Negligence After DNA Test Uncovers Shocking Birth Mix-Up

Men Discover Hospital Mix-Up After DNA Test Reveals They Were Switched at Birth

Two men from North Dakota, Jeremy Morrison and Kyle Bylin, are sharing their unbelievable story after a DNA test shocked them with the revelation that they were switched at birth almost 40 years ago. The duo has decided to sue Unity Medical Center, where they were born, seeking answers regarding their identities. Unfortunately, the hospital claims that there are no records available from that time.

The mix-up came to light two years ago when Bylin received a home DNA test as a gift. To his amazement, the test results showed he had no genetic connection to the family that raised him. “It was a huge shock,” Bylin explained. The test led him to uncover connections to his biological aunt and subsequently to Morrison. Further testing confirmed the unfortunate truth: the two men had grown up in each other’s families.

Morrison expressed that he will always consider the parents who raised him as his own. He said, “A DNA test isn’t going to change 38 years of memories overnight.”

Growing up, Morrison had always sensed something was different, often joking about the physical differences between him and his mother. “I had an inkling I was adopted or something like that,” he shared. Despite the upheaval, he reflected on the blend of nature and nurture that shaped him.

The emotional burden of this discovery weighs heavily on both men as they come to grips with how their lives were impacted. “I feel like I lost the ability to truly connect with my biological parents,” Bylin noted.

They have filed a lawsuit against Unity Medical Center, accusing the hospital of emotional distress and negligence for robbing them of the lives they were meant to lead. While the facility denies responsibility, they acknowledge the mix-up occurred but maintain that an internal investigation found no fault with their staff.

In a statement, the hospital expressed sympathy for the men and recognized the significant impact this situation has had on them and their families.

Although both Bylin and Morrison have recently met their biological parents, they have yet to meet each other face-to-face. “We grew up with each other’s families, so it doesn’t feel necessary,” Morrison said.

Despite the challenges they face moving forward, both men are determined to raise awareness about their situation, hoping it might prevent similar incidents in the future.
