BCCI Supports Young Talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on Tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to let the parents of 15-year-old cricket star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi join him on India’s upcoming tour to Ireland and England. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized that having his parents with him will help Vaibhav adjust to the new challenges of playing with the senior team.

This marks Vaibhav’s first call-up to the Indian T20 team, where he is set to participate in seven matches in both countries. The BCCI’s decision highlights its commitment to nurturing young talent while ensuring they have the right support.

Saikia noted, “It’s rare to see someone as young as Vaibhav on a national team. After many years, we have a player like him.” He also mentioned that the board aims to help Vaibhav transition smoothly into professional cricket, given the pressures and expectations of international tours.

Reflecting on the challenges of being a young player, he pointed out, “When a young kid is part of the senior team, there can be many issues. To help him feel comfortable and adapt to an adult environment, we thought it was best for his parents to travel with him.”

Saikia compared the situation to a student going on a school trip with a teacher, saying, “Even school kids have a senior person with them. Vaibhav is still a child, just transitioning from school life.”

With the tour starting on June 26 in Belfast, it is seen as a significant opportunity for Vaibhav to gain experience at the international level alongside seasoned players. The BCCI believes that having his parents nearby will help him stay focused on his game in this new environment.

No Disciplinary Action Expected Over On-Field Incident

Saikia also addressed concerns regarding an on-field altercation involving Vaibhav and Sri Lankan player Vishen Halambage. Following their exchange during a match, there was speculation about potential disciplinary actions against Vaibhav.

Saikia clarified that the BCCI had no plans to intervene, stating that such matters are under the jurisdiction of match officials. “The BCCI should not meddle in the decisions of match referees and umpires,” he said, emphasizing that the incident was part of the game.

He added, “Any decisions about what happened on the field are up to the match officials. They are in charge of handling these situations.”

With the BCCI firmly supporting Vaibhav during this formative stage of his cricket career, hopes are high for his future in the sport.
