Sunny Deol has officially announced the title of his eagerly anticipated historical drama, now called Batwara 1947, having previously been known as Lahore 1947. This exciting news came on June 9, 2026, along with a compelling first-look video that provides a glimpse into the film’s intense backdrop during the Partition era.

Scheduled for release in theaters on August 14, 2026, Batwara 1947 is produced by Aamir Khan under Aamir Khan Productions and directed by the renowned filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi. This film brings together three significant figures in Bollywood, creating one of the most ambitious projects in recent times.

The announcement video introduces viewers to a world marked by violence and struggle. It appears to focus on the human toll of the 1947 Partition. One striking poster shows Sunny Deol holding a flaming torch, protectively positioned beside Preity Zinta and Karan Deol, suggesting a family trying to survive amidst turmoil.

In another visual, Sunny Deol is seen running against a backdrop of destruction and flames, adding to the film’s dramatic atmosphere.

The film has attracted attention as it reunites Sunny Deol with Rajkumar Santoshi, who previously collaborated on iconic films like Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak. Their earlier work continues to resonate in Hindi cinema.

Adding to the excitement is Preity Zinta’s return to the screen opposite Sunny Deol. She has described this project as one of the most challenging films of her career. The cast also includes veteran actress Shabana Azmi, along with Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh in important roles.

The film’s arrival is notable as Sunny Deol is enjoying strong box office success following hits like Gadar 2 and Border 2. For Aamir Khan, this project represents a significant large-scale production, while Rajkumar Santoshi returns to a genre that has defined his filmmaking style for years.
