Prime Minister Modi Congratulated on Historic Tenure
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received warm messages of congratulations for reaching the milestone of being the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India. Leaders from Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, and Trinidad and Tobago praised his transformative governance and vision for an economically vibrant and inclusive India.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed his congratulations in a letter, acknowledging the support and trust the people of India have shown in Modi’s leadership over the years. He remarked that this milestone reflects not only Modi’s prolonged term but also his connection with the world’s largest democracy.
In a personal video message, James Marape, the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, shared that Modi stands as a role model for leadership. He highlighted Modi’s achievement in lifting over 200 million people out of poverty, calling it an incredible accomplishment.
Kamla Persad-Bissessar, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, also celebrated Modi’s leadership, noting India’s emerging role as a significant voice on global issues.
Dissanayake further emphasized India’s impressive economic and social advancements, claiming that Modi’s vision has inspired many, including those in Sri Lanka.
The official statement also recounted Modi’s visits to both Sri Lanka and Papua New Guinea, marking important diplomatic milestones. In April 2025, during his fourth visit to Sri Lanka, Modi received the ‘Mitra Vibhushana,’ the highest civilian honor awarded to a foreign national. His visit to Papua New Guinea in May 2023 was also notable as the first by an Indian Prime Minister, along with a trip to Trinidad and Tobago in 2025.
