Filmmaker Apologizes for Controversial Scenes in ‘Peddi’
Buchi Babu Sana, the director of the newly released film Peddi, has publicly apologized after receiving criticism over certain scenes involving actress Janhvi Kapoor. After the film’s release on June 4, many viewers expressed discomfort with how women were portrayed, prompting Buchi Babu to address these concerns on social media.
In his statement, he emphasized, “As a filmmaker, my goal is to entertain and inspire, and my work should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected.” He acknowledged the feedback regarding specific scenes and assured audiences that changes would be made.
Critics pointed out that Janhvi’s character seemed underdeveloped, despite being central to the story. Some viewers also raised concerns about the way particular scenes were shot, suggesting that the camera focused more on the actress’s body than the emotional aspects of the narrative.
Another major criticism focused on the romantic storyline, with some suggesting that it depicted non-consensual behavior as romance. This has sparked broader discussions on how relationships are represented in mainstream cinema.
Buchi Babu reassured everyone that disrespecting women was never his intention. He stated, “I have always respected women, on and off the screen. If any part of our film has been seen in a different light, we truly apologize.”
The director mentioned that the filmmaking team would review the feedback and planned to make necessary changes. He reflected on the importance of audience responses in shaping films, acknowledging that creators have a responsibility to be aware of evolving views and sensitivities.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to portraying women with respect and dignity. “Every woman deserves to be valued and represented properly,” he added.
Peddi, featuring Ram Charan alongside Janhvi Kapoor, had initially generated significant interest. However, the discussions surrounding its portrayal of women have now become a focal point, with many eager to see how the revised version will address the concerns raised.
