The controversy surrounding Ranveer Singh and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has taken a new turn, highlighting issues within the film industry. Recently, editor Shweta Venkat, known for her work on films like Gangs of Wasseypur, criticized FWICE for its lack of response to long-standing concerns from film editors, especially amid its decision to limit collaboration with Singh over the Don 3 situation.
This conflict began when filmmakers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani reported that Singh’s sudden exit from Don 3 led to significant financial losses, estimated at around Rs 45 crores. FWICE took action after claiming that Singh had ignored multiple warnings before they issued their directive on May 25.
Shweta Venkat voiced her frustration, noting that while FWICE acted quickly in Singh’s case, editors in the industry have faced issues such as delayed payments and poor working conditions without receiving adequate support. She mentioned that a letter, backed by 242 editors, was sent to producers regarding these problems, but there has been no follow-up since.
In a sarcastic tone, she questioned FWICE’s efficiency: “When film editors needed your support for dialogue with producers, where was this speed? It has been three years.” This comment reflects a growing concern that the needs of editors are often overlooked in favor of more prominent figures in the industry.
Singh left Don 3 back in December 2025, just weeks before filming was set to start. He cited changes in the script as the reason, while producers claimed his withdrawal caused major disruptions. On May 26, Singh’s team expressed that he has great respect for the film industry and believes in handling matters with dignity and respect.
