WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold an unusual cabinet meeting at Camp David on Wednesday as discussions about Iran reach a crucial phase, according to a White House official.
The choice of Camp David, a peaceful retreat in the Maryland mountains that Trump rarely visits, highlights the importance of the topics being discussed.
Reports indicate that Iran will be the main focus of the meeting, which will include all cabinet members. The economy is also expected to be discussed.
Over the weekend, Trump mentioned that a deal with Iran to help resolve the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is close, though tensions remain high, with him hinting that military action against Iran could resume.
Historically, Camp David has been the site of significant diplomatic events, such as the landmark 1978 peace agreement between Israel and Egypt during President Jimmy Carter’s administration, and the unsuccessful summit between Israeli and Palestinian leaders in 2000 under Bill Clinton.
However, Trump has visited Camp David infrequently. This will be only the second time during his second term that he goes there, with the first visit occurring just days before the U.S. launched strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in June 2025.
During his first term, Trump canceled a planned meeting with Taliban leaders at Camp David after an attack on U.S. forces.
