Tragedy Strikes Quetta: Train Attack Claims 23 Lives and Injures Many

At Least 23 Dead in Deadly Train Bombing in Pakistan

In a tragic incident on Sunday morning, at least 23 people lost their lives and around 70 were injured when a suicide bomber targeted a passenger train in Quetta, Pakistan. This attack occurred in the capital of Balochistan province when a vehicle packed with explosives detonated near the railway line, leading to two train cars overturning and catching fire.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a militant separatist group, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it aimed at a train carrying security personnel. Reports indicate the train was on a journey from Quetta to Peshawar, carrying army members and their families who were traveling for the Eid celebration.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the explosion sending shockwaves through the area. Images on social media showed thick black smoke rising as nearby buildings sustained heavy damage and parked vehicles were affected.

Many victims were rushed to local hospitals, and about 20 individuals are reported to be in critical condition, according to medical professionals.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the bombing as a “cowardly act of terrorism” and assured that those responsible would be held accountable. He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism.

Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti suggested that the BLA is supported by Indian-sponsored proxies, further straining the already tense relations between Pakistan and India. He condemned the attack, describing the militants as “evil.”

The BLA has been increasingly involved in attacking Pakistani security forces and infrastructure, with previous incidents resulting in significant casualties. In a similar attack in 2024, a bombing at a Balochistan train station claimed 26 lives, including that of soldiers.

The nation mourns this devastating loss as efforts to restore safety and stability continue.
