Fatima Sana Focuses on Team Goals Ahead of Key Match with India

Fatima Sana has emphasized that she and her teammates will not narrow their focus to just the high-profile match against Harmanpreet Kaur’s India in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The two rival teams are set to clash on Sunday, June 14, at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, as part of Group A.

Historically, India has had the upper hand in Women’s T20 Internationals, winning 13 out of the 16 encounters since 2009. In T20 World Cup competitions, India leads with a record of 6 wins to 2 against Pakistan.

While speaking during a training camp in Lahore, Fatima mentioned that the team views every match in the tournament as equally important. “We are prepared, and in a World Cup, every game matters. T20 cricket is unpredictable, and we can’t fixate on just one match,” Fatima explained during a media session.

She added, “The rivalry between India and Pakistan is well-known, and we hope to perform well.”

Pakistan’s Strong Preparation for the World Cup

Pakistan has shown strong form recently, clinching a 3-0 series win against Zimbabwe at home. Fatima had a standout performance in that series, hitting the fastest fifty in Women’s T20 history in just 15 balls—a record previously shared with players like Sophie Devine and Richa Ghosh.

Apart from her batting prowess, Fatima is also an impressive pace bowler who can swing the ball effectively. Last year, she took over the captaincy from Nida Dar and led the team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, which was co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Following their success against Zimbabwe, Pakistan is gearing up for a tri-series against Ireland and West Indies from May 28 to June 4 in Dublin. Along with India, Pakistan will also compete against South Africa, Australia, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands during the group stage of the tournament.
