TEHRAN: Senior officials from the US and Iran mentioned on Saturday that they might be nearing an important agreement to help end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. While both sides acknowledged that there are still differences to resolve, they clarified that discussions around Iran’s nuclear program will not be included in the first round of talks.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio shared a positive outlook, especially after Pakistan’s army chief concluded two days of discussions with Iranian leaders.

Rubio, speaking to reporters in New Delhi, said, “There’s a possibility that either later today, tomorrow, or in a few days, we could have some good news to share.” He expressed hope that an announcement would be made soon. Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign ministry echoed this sentiment by suggesting that a draft agreement might be close to being finalized.

Esmaeil Baqaei, a spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, stated on state television, “Our goal was to create a memorandum of understanding, a framework agreement that consists of 14 key points.”
