India Strengthens Ties with Dominica During Minister’s Visit

Roseau: Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, recently visited Kalinago Territory in Dominica. During his trip, he emphasized India’s dedication to supporting the local Kalinago community through a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

In a post shared on X, Margherita expressed his joy in visiting the picturesque Kalinago Territory. He stated, “India is committed to supporting the Kalinago community through our partnership with UNDP.” He further added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India aims to strengthen its friendship with Dominica, which is based on shared democratic values and South-South cooperation.

Margherita also toured three Quick Impact Project (QIP) locations in Grand Bay and St. Fond Jean. He highlighted that these projects reflect India’s ongoing commitment to community development in Dominica. In his message on X, he noted, “These timely grant assistances show India’s dedication to helping communities in Dominica. I thank Hon. Dr. Vince Henderson and the government of Dominica for their great support. Together for development and prosperity.”

Earlier, Margherita met with Dominica’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vince Henderson. They discussed ways to enhance their partnership across various sectors. He mentioned on X, “I was pleased to meet Hon’ble Vince Henderson. We shared ideas on strengthening our ties and exchanged an MoU on Pharmacopoeia and another on a Quick Impact Project. I also had the chance to speak with the Ministers of Health and Agriculture.”

Margherita also visited Acting Prime Minister Irving McIntyre, delivering warm greetings from Prime Minister Modi, and they explored ways to deepen bilateral relationships and connections between the people of the two nations.

In addition to these meetings, Margherita had an audience with Dominica’s President Sylvanie Burton, who is also the first woman to hold this position and comes from the indigenous Kalinago community. He conveyed greetings from Indian leadership and discussed further strengthening ties between India and Dominica.

Margherita arrived in Dominica on Friday, following a visit to Honduras and Belize, and was welcomed by Foreign Minister Vince Henderson.
