Kolkata Welcomes Eastern India’s First Starbucks Coffee Reserve

Kolkata: Tata Starbucks, a joint venture between Starbucks Coffee Company and Tata Consumer Products, has opened its first coffee reserve in eastern India right here in Kolkata. This is part of the company’s plan to grow its business in the region.

As part of its expansion efforts, Tata Starbucks is also looking to collaborate with local farmers to cultivate arabica coffee in Bengal. Currently, the company has four reserve stores across India, with two in Delhi and one in Mumbai. Adrit Mishra, the chief operating officer of Tata Starbucks, shared that the company chose a mall in the Beckbagan area for this new reserve due to rising coffee consumption in the city.

Mishra explained, “At our reserves, customers can sample a variety of coffee beans sourced from around the world. Kolkata’s rich history with coffee, particularly with its famous Coffee House from the British era, makes it a fitting location. While coffee currently represents about 25% of hot beverage consumption, we are seeing a growing number of coffee enthusiasts here.”

In their strategy to boost consumption, Tata Starbucks aims to introduce more coffee products tailored to the local market. Kolkata now boasts 13 stores, including the new reserve, and there are plans for an outlet at the airport. The company is also looking to set up more shops along highways.

Regarding their partnership with farmers, Mishra stated, “This initiative aims to distribute about one million arabica seedlings to around 10,000 farmers across the country, including those in Bengal, where coffee farming has started gaining traction.”

With these initiatives, Tata Starbucks is excited about promising growth in the coffee culture of Kolkata.
