Amritsar: Allegations of Police Inaction on Sacrilege Complaint

A former senior civil servant, now associated with the BJP, has raised serious concerns about the Punjab government’s actions regarding police inaction on a sacrilege complaint. Jagmohan Singh Raju claims that police have refused to file a first-information report (FIR) under the state’s new anti-sacrilege laws.

Raju submitted his complaint three days ago, asking for actions against those responsible for damaging Sikh holy books during the military operation at the Golden Temple in 1984. He expressed disappointment with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, questioning the government’s commitment to the anti-sacrilege legislation, which officials have labeled a historic measure against such offenses.

“The law seems to be used selectively for political messaging,” Raju stated, emphasizing that police have not responded to his complaint. He added, “While the CM promotes this law as significant, the police are unwilling to act on a case related to 1984.”

His complaint also includes aspects of criminal conspiracy, as per the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Raju is calling for an independent investigation that relies on historical evidence and eyewitness testimonies. He warned that if the police continue to neglect the issue, he will pursue further legal actions to ensure an investigation takes place.
