Colva Police Detain Benaulim Man for Alleged Assault on Cousin
Colva: A 21-year-old man from Benaulim, Delroy Fernandes, has been arrested by the local police for allegedly assaulting his cousin, Calvin Fernandes, multiple times in a single day.
According to a complaint lodged by Calvin, the first attack took place on the evening of April 25 at Sernabatim beach. Calvin claims Delroy, the son of local panchayat members, choked him and threatened both him and his mother.
The situation worsened when Calvin returned home later that night. Delroy, along with an accomplice, is said to have attacked him again, hitting him with slaps and punches, pushing his head against a grill, and throwing him to the ground.
When Calvin’s mother, Bernandina Silva, tried to intervene, Delroy allegedly insulted her, pulled her hair, and shoved her to the ground—a move described by police as an assault intended to humiliate a woman.
The police have filed several charges against Delroy, including causing bodily harm, making threats, and unlawful assembly, among others. He is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
