Controversy Surrounds Vinesh Phogat and the Wrestling Federation of India

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, is in the spotlight again due to a new controversy involving the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). This comes after a screenshot went viral, raising doubts about her registration for the upcoming National Open Ranking tournament.

The image shared widely on social media reveals that her registration on the WFI portal was logged on April 27 at 10:27 PM, just hours after she expressed difficulties with the registration process. This has led many fans to question the timing, especially since the WFI claimed there were no problems with her entry.

Vinesh confirmed on April 28 that she has now successfully registered for the tournament in Gonda. The WFI explained that the portal faced technical issues that affected multiple wrestlers, but these issues were resolved soon after.

Vinesh’s Concerns About Registration

Previously, Vinesh mentioned her struggle to register, even though the WFI’s announcement stated the deadline was April 30. “I am eager to compete in the National Open Ranking Tournament. The registration was supposed to be open until April 30, but when I tried to register, the portal indicated it was already closed,” she stated.

She also commented on her efforts to get in touch with WFI officials, saying, “I have been trying to contact them, but they haven’t replied to my calls.”

This tournament is significant for wrestlers aiming for spots in the Asian Games and World Championships.

WFI Responds to Allegations

In response to Vinesh’s claims, WFI president Sanjay Singh refuted the accusations, asserting that her registration had been successfully completed. “Vinesh Phogat’s registration is already done. Why create unnecessary drama? No wrestler has been barred from participating; everyone is welcome,” he said.

The federation reiterated that technical difficulties on the portal impacted numerous wrestlers, not just Vinesh, and those issues were sorted out eventually. While Vinesh’s successful registration a day later seems to support this, the alarming timestamp continues to fuel the discussion.
