Critical Situation: Rally Your Support for Indian Christians Facing Reconversion Pressure

Urgent Prayer Needed for Christian Families in Chhattisgarh

A critical deadline of April 30 has been set for Christian families in Chhattisgarh, India, who are being pressured to abandon their faith in Jesus. In the face of this intense pressure, it’s important for us to stand in support of our Indian brothers and sisters and to pray for them during this challenging time.

Some tribal Christians are experiencing heightened pressure to revert to their previous beliefs. If they refuse to do so at a Ghar Wapsi event, which translates to “homecoming,” they risk serious repercussions.

The pressure is coming from a well-known organization that represents tribal communities in Chhattisgarh, a state known for having strict anti-conversion laws. These laws make it incredibly difficult for individuals who choose to follow Jesus to maintain their new faith.

On April 19, representatives from the Sarva Adivasi Samaj, an umbrella group for tribal organizations, gathered about 800 people to demand the reconversion of any Christians. During the meeting, attendees voiced concerns that conversions from traditional beliefs are on the rise and emphasized that they will not accept these changes within their communities.

While no specific individuals were called out, the organization is advocating for strong actions against those who have converted. The main speaker expressed that this is not just a religious matter but a significant social issue, with Christianity seen as a threat to cultural identity. Representatives asked local authorities to step in to maintain peace and uphold traditions.

Threats to Churches

These meetings have become frequent as strategies are developed to encourage reconversions. The Sarva Adivasi Samaj even invited converted families, but none chose to attend.

They have threatened mass protests and legal actions against those who resist, citing the new Chhattisgarh Freedom of Religion Bill 2026, which imposes significant limitations on the ability to convert.

Due to the rising social pressure, some families have indicated they might participate in the Ghar Wapsi ceremony, while many other Christians live in fear of protests and forced reconversions.

How You Can Help

At this uncertain time, our Christian brothers and sisters urgently need our prayers to help them remain steadfast in their faith. Here’s how you can support them:

  • Pray that tribal Christians, especially recent converts, will stay strong in their beliefs despite the immense pressures.
  • Pray for local authorities, that they will act justly and impartially, protecting people of all faiths.
  • Pray for God’s protection over His people in Chhattisgarh and across India, empowering them to share His love and truth with their communities.

Your prayers can make a difference as these families navigate a very challenging situation.
