Late Monday evening, a tragic train collision occurred just outside Jakarta, Indonesia, claiming the lives of at least five people and leaving many others injured. Emergency rescue teams quickly sprang into action following the accident.

One survivor shared her terrifying experience as she described how a long-distance train collided with the stationary commuter train she was riding. Many passengers found themselves trapped in the twisted wreckage of the carriages.

Franoto Wibowo, a spokesperson for the state-owned railway company KAI, reported that the commuter train had come to a halt on the tracks after being struck by a taxi at a crossing. Unfortunately, this moment of stillness led to the devastating crash with the incoming train.

Jakarta’s police chief, Asep Edi Suheri, noted that the long-distance train struck the last carriage, which was designated for women only. All victims were aboard the commuter train, while the approximately 240 passengers on the long-distance train were evacuated without incident.

The collision resulted in serious damage to multiple train carriages, according to a statement from the Jakarta search and rescue agency. They confirmed that several passengers sustained injuries, and many were trapped inside due to the impact’s severity.
