Hardik Pandya Celebrates Rohit Sharma’s 15 Years with Mumbai Indians
Hardik Pandya shared a touching message for Rohit Sharma as he marks 15 incredible years with the Mumbai Indians (MI). Rohit joined MI in 2011 for $2 million after leaving the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. His debut for the team came on April 10, 2011, against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
In a heartfelt video posted by MI, Hardik expressed his gratitude to Rohit for being a guiding force for the team over the years. He emphasized how Rohit has helped nurture talent and recognized his approachable personality and leadership style.
“Congratulations on 15 years, bro! Thank you for your long-standing leadership,” Hardik said. “I made my debut under your guidance, along with Boom (Jasprit Bumrah) and many others.” He continued, “You’ve inspired so many players who have represented both MI and India. Thank you for everything!”
Despite ongoing rumors about a potential captaincy conflict between Rohit and Hardik, the Mumbai Indians have denied these claims. Speculation arose after discussions about possibly replacing Rohit with Hardik as captain ahead of IPL 2024, which stirred mixed reactions from fans. Reports of an ultimatum from Hardik to Rohit have also been labeled as untrue.
Currently, Hardik holds the captaincy, while Rohit remains an influential figure within the team. Over his tenure, Rohit has played 230 IPL matches for MI, scoring 5,994 runs with an average of 29.67 and a strike rate of 132.79. His impressive stats include 40 half-centuries and two centuries, with a personal best of 109 not out scored against the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012.
In this IPL season, Rohit has tallied 118 runs in three matches, maintaining an average of 39.33, with his highest score being 78 against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.
Rohit Sharma’s legacy with the Mumbai Indians continues to evolve, as he remains a key player and respected leader for the team.
