Two Arrested After Attempt to Enter Naval Base in Scotland
On Thursday, two individuals were detained following a failed attempt to access HM Naval Base Clyde in Scotland, according to Police Scotland. One of the suspects is an Iranian man, while the nationality of the woman has not been disclosed.
Authorities reported that around 5 PM, they were alerted about the breach at the naval base. A 34-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were subsequently arrested as investigations continue.
Reports indicate that the pair was turned away from the base due to a lack of proper credentials and was later apprehended nearby for displaying suspicious behavior.
A spokesperson for the Royal Navy stated that the incident is under ongoing investigation, thus limiting further comments. HM Naval Base Clyde, often referred to as Faslane, serves as the primary site for the UK’s missile fleet.
The Royal Navy emphasizes that this base is home to the core of the Submarine Service, including the nation’s nuclear deterrents. Currently, the base hosts a fleet of nine submarines, all of which are stationed at HM Naval Base Clyde.
Faslane holds significant importance within the UK defense framework, particularly regarding its submarine capabilities armed with Trident missiles.
