Tragedy Strikes British Columbia School
In a tragic event at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia, at least nine individuals lost their lives in a shooting incident. Authorities have confirmed that the suspected shooter was also found dead.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported receiving emergency calls about an active shooter at approximately 1:20 p.m. local time on Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers discovered six victims who had died from gunshot wounds and the alleged shooter, who appeared to have taken their own life.
Two additional victims were flown to a hospital for serious injuries, while one person passed away en route to medical care. During the investigation, police located two more victims at a separate location, believed to be linked to the shooter.
Around 25 other individuals with less serious injuries were treated at a local medical facility, authorities stated.
Superintendent Ken Floyd, the North District Commander, expressed condolences and highlighted the importance of teamwork during such a crisis. “This day has been incredibly tough for our community, and we appreciate the cooperation from everyone involved,” he said.
All students and staff were safely evacuated from the school, and officials do not believe there are any other suspects or ongoing dangers to the public. The identity of the shooter has not yet been disclosed, nor has any possible motive.
Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his sorrow over the incident. He shared his thoughts on social media, saying, “My deepest condolences go to the families affected by this violence. Our unity and compassion in times like this show the best of who we are as a country.”
An increased police presence in the area included reinforcements from nearby detachments and emergency response teams. The Peace River South School District acknowledged the lockdown at both Tumbler Ridge Secondary and Tumbler Ridge Elementary schools, urging caution and patience from the community.
