Shadab Khan recently shared how challenging it is to make a comeback in international cricket, stating that players essentially have to “start from zero” again. The leg-spinner made his return to T20 International cricket after a six-month break during the first match of the three-match series against Sri Lanka in Dambulla on Wednesday.

Shadab had a standout performance, earning the Player of the Match award as Pakistan secured a solid six-wicket victory, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. He ended the match with impressive bowling figures of 2 wickets for just 25 runs in 4 overs, helping to limit the Sri Lankan team to 128 runs in 19.2 overs. Moreover, he contributed with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 18 runs off 12 balls to help clinch the win with 20 balls remaining.

After playing with the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League, Shadab noted that the pitch conditions were favorable. He emphasized the importance of keeping things simple in his approach.

“Comebacks in international cricket are difficult as you begin at zero. I focused on bowling and batting effectively while ensuring I assessed the pitch conditions,” Shadab remarked during the post-match presentation.

He also expressed his aspirations for the upcoming T20 World Cup but stated he would take it one step at a time. “Playing at the highest level is every player’s dream, but I prefer to focus gradually,” he added.

### SHADAB SHINES AGAINST SRI LANKA

Shadab Khan showcased remarkable skill and intelligence in his bowling. He entered the game just when Sri Lanka was gaining momentum, quickly asserting his presence with crafty variations in his deliveries. He took his first wicket by deceiving Kusal Mendis, who tried to sweep a slow delivery that dipped just enough to hit the pads, resulting in an easy lbw call.

His second wicket came soon after, when Dhananjaya de Silva, expecting the ball to spin away, edged a googly to Usman Khan. Throughout his spell, Shadab continuously kept Sri Lankan batsmen on their toes, mixing pace and spin. Although he conceded a few boundaries, his performance effectively disrupted Sri Lanka’s rhythm, swinging the match in Pakistan’s favor.

Shadab’s effective bowling highlighted his adaptability and strategy, reinforcing his crucial role in the team.
