Ashes Showdown: Pat Cummins Reaches Out to Usman Khawaja Before Sydney Send-Off

Usman Khawaja Set for Farewell Test at SCG

Australia’s Test and ODI captain, Pat Cummins, has recently extended a heartfelt request to Usman Khawaja as he prepares for his final Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). With Khawaja announcing his retirement from international cricket ahead of the fifth Test of the Ashes 2025-26 series, there’s an air of nostalgia surrounding this moment.

As the 39-year-old cricketer gets ready to say goodbye to his playing days, Cummins took to Instagram to celebrate Khawaja’s achievements and urged him to hit one last century at his home ground. “Congratulations on an incredible career, mate. One more home century to go,” Cummins shared along with a photo of the two players.

Khawaja has an impressive record at the SCG, amassing 875 runs in nine matches with an average of 87.5. His performance includes four centuries and one fifty. Notably, it was at this very ground where he made a remarkable return to the Test team during the Ashes 2021-22 series, scoring two centuries.

His recent form has had its ups and downs. After a strong two-year run, where he was the highest run-scorer in the Ashes series in 2023, Khawaja faced some challenges in recent matches. Injuries, particularly back spasms, affected his performance and led to time away from the field.

In total, Khawaja has played 87 Tests, 40 ODIs, and nine T20Is, accumulating 8,001 runs, including 18 centuries and 41 half-centuries. His contributions also helped Australia secure a memorable ODI series victory in India in 2019.

Wrapping up his career at the SCG would be a fitting tribute for Khawaja, who made his international debut at this iconic venue. He will join the ranks of other Australian legends who have chosen to end their careers at the historic ground.
