Shweta Tripathi Ventures into Horror with New Film ‘Nava’

Actor and producer Shweta Tripathi is embarking on an exciting new journey with her first horror film, Nava. This project will be developed under her production company, Bandarful Films, in partnership with Kowatanda Films India. This marks her second production after the queer drama Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, which starred Tilottama Shome, highlighting her dedication to unique and culturally engaging stories.

Nava is set in the stunning yet ominous wetlands of the Sundarbans. The story revolves around Tara, who returns to her family home only to uncover a chilling mystery that ties into ancient river gods, hidden family secrets, and the complicated relationship between myth and memory. The screenplay is crafted by Akash Mohimen, promising a thoughtful mix of folklore, suspense, and emotional depth.

Shweta shared her enthusiasm about stepping into the horror genre, saying, “Nava is a very special project for me as a producer. After Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, which focused on love and identity, I felt the urge to dive into a different emotional space. Horror, especially when combined with culture and folklore, can evoke powerful reactions. The Sundarbans in this story is more than just a setting; it has a life of its own. When I heard Akash’s script, I was captivated by its beauty, fear, and essence. I aim to support stories that take creative chances and linger with audiences long after the credits roll. Partnering with Kowatanda Films India feels like the perfect fit because we both share a passion for meaningful storytelling.”

With Nava, Shweta is diving deeper into her role as a producer, continuing her goal of championing unique and character-driven Indian narratives that defy norms and celebrate authenticity.
