When Deepti Sharma helped India secure its first ICC Women’s World Cup title in Navi Mumbai this month, she didn’t just bring an end to a long wait; she changed the landscape of women’s cricket in India. Her outstanding performance throughout the tournament gained her widespread recognition and altered how fans perceive the sport.

The 27-year-old shared her feelings about the victory, revealing the emotional impact it has had on her life. In a conversation with a sports channel, Deepti discussed how living daily has shifted since that historic win.

She mentioned that the public acknowledgment has grown immensely. “Before the tournament, I could move around freely, go shopping without being noticed. Now, it’s a different story. Even wearing a mask doesn’t hide me anymore, which shows how much women’s cricket has evolved since we won the World Cup. It feels amazing to be recognized and appreciated for my efforts,” she said.

Deepti’s remarkable performance in the tournament highlighted her skill and consistency. She was named Player of the Tournament for scoring 215 runs and taking 22 wickets, marking the second-highest wicket total in Women’s World Cup history. Her significant contributions, including a crucial 58 runs and a five-wicket haul in the final against South Africa, secured India’s inaugural ICC Women’s World Cup title.

Regarding her achievements, Deepti said, “Honestly, I don’t focus on milestones. Whether I score five runs or fifty, what truly matters is my team’s victory. That’s what I treasure the most.”

For Deepti, this recognition goes beyond fame; it represents progress. She believes that India’s World Cup win has forever transformed the perception of women’s cricket.

The all-rounder from Agra is hopeful that this victory will impact the sport positively for years to come. “This win was long-awaited by fans and players. Now that we have this trophy, women’s cricket will only continue to expand,” she explained.

She pointed out the increase in televised matches and the growing number of games each year, including Test matches. The Women’s Premier League (WPL) has also played a crucial role in nurturing players’ careers. Deepti strongly feels that this achievement will inspire many more girls to embrace cricket.

As Deepti Sharma continues to celebrate this significant milestone in women’s cricket, she cherishes more than just a medal; she takes pride in representing a generation that has transformed the face of Indian sports.

Her journey, from training as an aspiring cricketer in Agra with her brother to becoming a key player on the global stage, reflects the rise of a sport that is now gaining the recognition it deserves.
