Arrest in High-Profile Diesel Scam

Lucknow: On Friday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) apprehended Shadab, also known as Dumpi, who was a close aide to the deceased gangster Mukhtar Ansari. The arrest is part of the investigation into a significant diesel supply scam involving BSNL. Dumpi stands accused of defrauding the system of approximately Rs 100 crore and had been evading law enforcement, reportedly living in Dubai before returning to India.

Upon his arrival from Mumbai, Dumpi was swiftly taken into custody by the police in Lucknow. ED sources revealed that he is believed to be the primary orchestrator of the fraudulent activity and a vital member of the infamous IS 191 gang. His detention could potentially lead to crucial revelations regarding the scam and the gang’s illegal operations.

Investigations indicate that Dumpi facilitated the diesel supply contract for BSNL towers through a company called Vikas Construction, which is connected to Mukhtar Ansari and his associates. This tendering process allegedly involved extensive manipulation, resulting in significant illicit profits.

Further inquiries have identified Imran, a Ghazipur local, as Dumpi’s main accomplice. With the backing of Mukhtar Ansari, they reportedly managed to penetrate BSNL’s operations, enabling the scam to take place. ED launched its investigation into the diesel fraud nearly two years ago, and when the irregularities were uncovered, Dumpi fled to Dubai to avoid capture.

After being tipped off about Dumpi’s return, authorities were ready to act. Upon his arrival, he was taken into custody by Lucknow police and transferred to the ED for further questioning. The agency is currently conducting rigorous interrogations, which may reveal the identities of several BSNL officials and other members of Mukhtar’s gang involved in the fraud.
