Alyssa Healy to Miss Key Match Against England

Australia’s cricket team faces a significant challenge as captain Alyssa Healy is set to miss the important Women’s World Cup match against England on Wednesday. Cricket Australia announced that Healy suffered a minor calf injury during practice on Saturday, October 19.

Despite her absence from this crucial game, the team’s management will reevaluate her fitness ahead of their upcoming match against South Africa. Healy has been in outstanding form during the tournament, scoring 142 runs against India and an unbeaten 113 against Bangladesh.

In the match-up on Wednesday, both Australia and England are unbeaten and competing for the top position in the World Cup standings.

Australia will be eager to have Healy back in time for their high-stakes game against South Africa on October 26. With the semi-final lined up for October 29, there is limited time for Healy to recover fully.

Her injury creates a gap in the Australian lineup. Tahlia McGrath will step up as captain, with Beth Mooney taking over the wicketkeeping duties. The team has also called up 22-year-old Georgia Voll, who is expected to lead off the batting. Voll has shown promise, having scored 81 off 68 balls in a previous match against India.

Healy has been a vital part of Australia’s batting strategy, currently holding the title of the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 294 runs over four matches. Recently, she played a key role in Australia’s remarkable chase of 331 runs against India, followed by a stunning 113 runs off just 77 balls in a dominant victory over Bangladesh.

Healy has had a challenging time with injuries during major tournaments. Her participation in the 2024 T20 World Cup was also affected, and she faced several fitness concerns leading up to the current World Cup. After returning to the game in August, she played six matches for Australia A before rejoining the national team for this championship.

As the team braces for the match against England, all eyes will be on the recovery of their captain and potential return to the field.
