Pravin Amre Calls for Patience from India’s Management Following Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy Departure

Former India Coach Advocates Patience for Rohit Sharma’s New Role

Former Indian cricket coach Pravin Amre has called for patience from the cricket board as Rohit Sharma transitions into a new role after stepping down as ODI captain. Rohit has passed the leadership baton to Shubman Gill, having won 42 out of 56 matches during his coaching tenure.

This ODI series carries added importance as it marks a shift in leadership dynamics, with uncertainties lingering over the futures of established players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Amre believes that Rohit, who is adjusting after stepping down following the 2025 Champions Trophy, should be allowed to focus on his batting without the pressures of captaincy.

“He is the most experienced player in the team, and it’s important for him to play like that. The team management should give him the space to grow and enjoy his batting. The more he enjoys it, the more of a match-winner he can become,” Amre shared.

The coach also noted Rohit’s commitment to his fitness, mentioning how he has been preparing physically for his return. “I saw him training at BKC, and I told him that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. He worked hard for the last six months and lost around 10 kilos,” Amre added.

Looking ahead, there are questions about Rohit’s long-term position on the team, particularly with the 2027 World Cup approaching. Amre emphasized taking things one series at a time and letting Rohit enjoy his cricket. “Let’s focus on the current series. He doesn’t need to prove anything at this stage; he should just enjoy playing,” he said.

Rohit looked sharp during his first training session on October 16, setting a positive tone for his upcoming matches.
