American Veterans Aid Palestinians Amid Ongoing Conflict in Gaza
American veterans are actively involved in efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Jason Murray, Scott Weimer, and Brandon Zielinski, all former U.S. military personnel, are helping ensure that those in need receive essential food supplies.
Murray described their mission as building something vital without having a clear destination. GHF started its operations in May 2025, after more than a year into the ongoing conflict. Despite the difficulties in delivering aid, Murray finds similarities between his military experiences and his current role with GHF.
Weimer stated that when the chance arose to help, it felt like a natural fit. He felt they could fulfill a critical need that others might not be able to. Zielinski shared that his experience in the military helped him navigate language barriers while coordinating with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) who work alongside GHF.
The three veterans have witnessed the desperation among hungry Palestinians seeking food assistance. They also mentioned the risks posed by irresponsible groups, such as Hamas operatives, who threaten both the GHF team and local residents supporting the cause.
Murray explained that GHF and the IDF work together to maintain security while allowing civilians access to aid. He emphasized that the threat from Hamas is always a concern.
Weimer echoed this sentiment, stating that while they notice Hamas’s presence in the background, their primary focus remains on delivering aid to those in urgent need. He praised Zielinski’s team for effectively managing challenges posed by individuals trying to disrupt their mission.
Prior to starting their work, Zielinski and his team attend briefings by the IDF regarding the security situation. He discussed how the environment has changed over time, with threats ranging from firearms to other weapons. Zielinski mentioned how they observe suspicious behavior and report it to intelligence officials.
When asked about the realities on the ground, the veterans expressed that it’s crucial for Americans to conduct their own research. Weimer voiced frustration over media coverage that misrepresents GHF, urging viewers to seek the truth.
Zielinski highlighted the dedication of GHF volunteers, stating that they are deeply committed to helping civilians in Gaza. Since its inception, GHF claims to have delivered over 160 million meals, despite facing numerous challenges. The organization continues to call on the international community for support in their mission to provide food assistance to those in need.
The veterans highlighted that their collective goal is to assist those suffering from hunger, demonstrating resilience and compassion in a turbulent situation.
