Australia Women’s Cricket Team Gears Up for World Cup 2025
Alyssa Healy, captain of the Australia women’s cricket team, is confident as her team prepares to face the challenging conditions in India for the upcoming Women’s World Cup 2025. The tournament kicks off on September 30, and Australia will launch their campaign against New Zealand on October 1.
Before the World Cup, Australia will play a three-match ODI series against India starting September 14. Healy highlighted the difficulties of playing in Indian conditions but believes her team is well-equipped to handle the challenges ahead.
“I’m excited about the challenge, as the conditions will test our group,” Healy stated. “We have a lot of depth in our squad, which will help us adapt to whatever comes our way.”
Healy’s sights are also set on winning consecutive World Cup titles, which she described as the ultimate goal in cricket. Australia holds the record for the most Women’s ODI World Cup titles, with seven championships, and they are the defending champions after winning the last tournament in 2022 against England.
“Winning back-to-back titles hasn’t been done for a while, and we’d love to achieve that,” she noted. “World Cups are what we strive for, and we know we need to perform consistently.”
Reflecting on last year’s T20 World Cup, Healy recalled Australia’s semi-final loss to South Africa, which ended their streak of three consecutive wins at that event. She expressed confidence in her team’s ability to bounce back.
“We faced some challenges in the UAE, where one off day cost us dearly. We need solid performances across all matches, and I feel good about where we are right now,” she said.
In preparation for the World Cup, Australia has welcomed back Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham to strengthen their spin options. They will face England in a warm-up match on September 27, setting the stage for the tournament.
