Wood River Health Celebrates 50 Years During National Health Center Week
HOPE VALLEY — Wood River Health is proudly joining community health centers across the nation in celebrating National Health Center Week from August 2-8. This year also marks a significant milestone for the center as it commemorates 50 years of providing essential health care services to the residents of southern Rhode Island.
This event highlights the vital role community health centers play in delivering medical care and support services to everyone, regardless of their insurance status or financial situation. The theme for this year’s celebration, “Building Innovative Care Where It Matters Most,” emphasizes the importance of expanding access to health care in local communities.
Having opened its doors in 1976, Wood River Health has made great strides by offering medical, dental, and behavioral health services. The center also runs various programs aimed at addressing challenges that affect overall health, including access to resources and social support.
“National Health Center Week is a wonderful opportunity to honor our patients, staff, board members, and community partners who help us fulfill our mission,” said Alison L. Croke, President and CEO of Wood River Health. “As we look back on the past 50 years, we are thankful for the trust our community has shown us. We are proud of our contribution to delivering quality care, promoting health equity, and supporting the well-being of our neighbors.”
Across the country, community health centers serve over 52 million individuals, providing preventive and primary care while helping to break down barriers to accessing health services. Many of these centers also connect patients to resources related to food security, housing, transportation, and other factors that can impact health.
At Wood River Health, initiatives like the Kim Hebert Community Fund offer valuable support and resources to eligible patients.
