Tanishk Bagchi Opens Up About His Experience on ‘Saiyaara’ Title Track
Music composer Tanishk Bagchi recently shared a heartfelt message on Instagram as the song “Saiyaara” marked its one-year anniversary on July 18. He expressed both pride and disappointment in his involvement with the film’s title track. While he celebrated the song’s impact, he also revealed his dissatisfaction regarding the financial recognition he received for his work. Following his comments, Yash Raj Films (YRF) responded to clarify the situation.
In his post, Tanishk reflected on his journey with YRF for this project, noting that it was his first collaboration with the company. He shared his dedication to the song, explaining how much effort he invested in every detail—from production to working with lyricists and singers. Despite the large audience the song reached, Tanishk mentioned that he earned nothing after covering the costs of production and was still waiting for a royalty payment of ₹8 lakhs, which he felt was insignificant given the song’s success.
Tanishk emphasized that he didn’t want sympathy but aimed to share his experience. He expressed that this situation has changed his perspective on the industry, stating he would now only work with producers and directors who genuinely appreciate creativity and effort. He expressed respect for director Mohit Suri and lyricist Irshad Kamil, acknowledging their support throughout the process.
In response, a YRF spokesperson addressed Tanishk’s concerns, clarifying that the royalties for “Saiyaara” are shared equally among the three composers involved, including Tanishk. They assured that all collaborators have been compensated as agreed in their contracts.
This exchange came on the same day that “Saiyaara” celebrated its anniversary. The film’s lead actors, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, commemorated the occasion by unveiling a special Collector’s Edition Vinyl LP at Wembley Stadium in London, recognizing the soundtrack’s significant role in the film’s success.
The conversation sparked by Tanishk and YRF has raised important discussions in the music industry about the recognition and compensation for composers behind hit tracks.
