AI Startup Perplexity Selects Nvidia’s New CPUs

On July 8, 2026, AI startup Perplexity announced its decision to incorporate Nvidia’s latest central processing units (CPUs) as Nvidia aims to expand its market and compete with established companies like Intel and AMD.

Nvidia is projecting that its “Vera” CPUs, designed for general computing rather than specifically for AI, will generate around $20 billion in sales by the end of the fiscal year. These chips are part of Nvidia’s strategy to diversify its product offerings, especially as companies like OpenAI and DeepSeek invest in their own AI chip technology.

The CPU market is currently very crowded, with Intel and AMD having a stronghold, providing processors for various devices including laptops and web servers. However, many existing CPUs were created before the advent of AI “agents,” which are capable of performing tasks independently once they receive instructions.

Nate Kupp, Vice President for Computer Enterprise and Infrastructure at Perplexity, highlighted that Nvidia’s CPUs can perform AI-related coding tasks approximately 1.5 times faster than conventional CPUs. “Vera seemed like a perfect match for many of our core workloads,” Kupp shared in an interview.

Though Perplexity has not revealed how many Nvidia CPUs it intends to purchase, Nvidia has indicated that other companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Oracle, plan to integrate these chips into their operations.
