EXCLUSIVE: Karma Nu Rahasyam, a UNIQUE Gujarati film tackling ABUSE, set to go head-to-head with Alpha; CBFC gives green light without cuts!

This week, audiences can look forward to the release of several films, including Alpha, Baby Do Die Do, and Minions & Monsters. Among them is the Gujarati film Karma Nu Rahasyam, which stands out in the regional cinema landscape. Traditionally, Gujarati films tend to focus on family-friendly narratives, but this movie takes a bold turn, featuring characters who use strong language. Notably, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) approved the film without requiring any cuts.

Karma Nu Rahasyam draws inspiration from real-life stories and boasts a cast that includes Uttsav Naik, Prince Limbadia, Bansi Rajput, Naisarg Mistry, Zankhana Patel, Makrand, Arvind Vegda, and Sapna Vyas. Directed by Asif Silavat and produced by Karan Singh Tomar, the film’s trailer showcases characters using explicit language, making it a unique entry in Gujarati cinema.

The CBFC granted the film an ‘A’ certificate but requested some modifications, such as adding disclaimers about the use of alcohol and the illegal status of narcotics in Gujarat. Interestingly, while the board asked for some edits—like blurring brand names and including anti-smoking warnings—they did not request any alterations to the strong language.

After making the recommended changes, the film received its certification on May 25, running for a total time of 1 hour and 48 minutes.

The release of Karma Nu Rahasyam has stirred conversations within the Gujarati film industry. Some insiders express concern, stating that the use of such language does not align with the cultural values of Gujarati cinema. However, other producers note that as explicit language has become common in Hindi films, it may only be a matter of time before it appears in regional films as well. They pointed out the inconsistency in the CBFC’s approach, given that previous films with similar content faced cuts.

Despite the buzz, many in the industry doubt that this trend will lead to a broader acceptance of such language in future films. As many Gujarati films rely on government subsidies, which favor ‘U’ or ‘U/A’ rated movies, filmmakers might hesitate to adopt a more explicit style to maintain their eligibility for financial support.
