Injury Updates on Cowboys Cornerbacks: DaRon Bland and Shavon Revel Jr.
DaRon Bland’s Injury Journey
DaRon Bland has been struggling with foot problems for almost two seasons now. His troubles began with a stress fracture in his left foot during the 2024 training camp. After undergoing surgery, he had to sit out the first ten weeks of the season but made a comeback in late November. He managed to play the last seven games of that season without further issues. However, last season brought another setback when he sprained his right foot, causing him to miss only two games. Unfortunately, his left foot injury reappeared, leading the Cowboys to put him on injured reserve for the last three games. In January, he underwent a second surgery on his left foot.
Progress Report
Although Bland hasn’t been cleared by the medical team yet, early reports from recent OTAs suggest that his lateral movements are looking promising. The team is being careful, but there is optimism that he will be ready when the mandatory minicamp starts on June 15.
Looking Ahead
Once recovered, Bland is expected to play a vital role in coach Christian Parker’s defensive lineup. His strong instincts in zone coverage and ability to read quarterbacks will be essential. He has shown versatility in various positions but will primarily serve as one of the starting boundary corners.
Shavon Revel Jr.’s Injury Recovery
Shavon Revel Jr., a second-year cornerback, faced significant challenges last season, missing the first nine games while recovering from an ACL injury sustained early in his final college season in 2024. This injury was a primary reason he was drafted in the third round. He faced a minor setback last July when his knee flared up, which delayed his NFL debut until mid-November against the Las Vegas Raiders. Revel Jr. played seven games but ended the season on the sidelines due to a concussion.
Progress Update
Despite making it back to the field last year, Revel Jr. struggled with trust in his knee. His mobility was somewhat stiff, and he lacked his usual explosiveness. Fortunately, he has shown marked improvement recently. He no longer wears the protective leg brace and appeared much more fluid in his movements during OTAs.
Future Prospects
With no medical limitations now, Revel Jr. is fully ready to compete. His length and speed will be valuable assets for Coach Parker’s schemes as he vies for the other boundary corner spot alongside Bland. Competing for this role are free-agent addition Cobie Durant, who can play both outside and in the slot, as well as third-year player Caelen Carson, who has impressed coaches by consistently making plays while also returning from a knee injury.
